Number Of Single People Renting Drops

According to the HomeLet Rental Index there has been a significant reduction in the number of single people renting properties. If you are a landlord, this may or may not come as a surprise to you based upon your experience of renting out a property. The research has shown that in 2015, 33% of new tenancies were taken up by single tenants. Back in 2008 this figure was 67% meaning that there has been a huge drop. So, how does this compare with two people taking on the tenancy of a property in which to live in? Well, the index reveals that, back in 2008, 28% of tenancies involved 2 tenants occupying a property. Last year that figure had risen significantly to 52%. It would appear that there has been a shift towards an increasing number of couples deciding to rent jointly. That could be married couples or partners either with or without families but also two single people deciding to rent a property together. Major Insurer To Build 3,000 New Homes For Rent

Landlords vary in size from the sole trader who may build or renovate one home to rent out, to a multi-national company that builds an apartment block consisting of 50 flats. You may be interested to read that Legal and General, a large insurance company here in the UK, is to work in partnership with a pension fund from Holland called PGGM to construct 3,000 much needed homes here in the UK that are to be rented out. In the first instance, some 650 apartments are to be constructed in Walthamstow, Salford and Bristol. What is interesting is that Legal and General feel that more focus needs to be placed on the building of new homes rather than developing old properties to help provide more suitable accommodation for tenants. The insurer is to be involved in the development of these properties and is then to rent them out to provide income to those investing in pension funds.
