Shelter Receives Thousands Of Complaints About Landlords
It is disturbing to hear that, according to research carried out for Shelter that is a homelessness and housing charity, it estimates that in excess of 125,000 people in England that are renting residences on a private basis have been subject to some form of abusive behavior from their landlords in the past 12 months. We are sure that you will agree that this is a disturbing statistic. Apparently, some 3,792 people took part in the survey with 60 of them stating that they or a different tenant that they knew had been abused in some way either by the landlord or letting agent. Around 10% were of the opinion that the law was broken in some way by their landlord. Like most things, it is a small percentage of landlords/letting agents that would appear to be letting the industry down. Shelter hear from a number of tenants who have complaints about a variety of issues such as rental properties not being suitably maintained, landlords going into properties without the agreement of the tenant, gas and/or electricity being cut off and people being evicted illegally.
